This painting is my defiance towards societal and religious norms that constantly try to dictate how a woman should exist in society, as though society has a right to stake a claim over a woman's body. How or when a woman chooses to have sex, how she chooses to have children - or not, get married or not, what she chooses to wear or not wear, what shape her body should take.

It just seems to me that every sector of society is trying to stake a claim over my body, like they have a right to it. And imposing their (oft sexist) laws on how I should exist.

When women have no voice, when they have no control over how they have sex or with whom or when, when women are not respected as individuals with a right to their own bodies - or when women are made to feel worthless unless they look a certain way - they lose the power to determine for themselves how they wish to live - an inherent birth right of every individual.

Keep Your Religious Laws Off My Body. Keep Your Sizeist Laws Off My Body. Keep Your Patriarchal Laws Off My Body. Since your laws matter so much to you, then you subscribe by them and may you be happily ruled by them. But Keep Your Goddamned Laws Off MY Body.
